The cluster of 16 Imagines is based on a collection of still images from feature films showing butterflies. Their precise specification was achieved with patience, sometimes by clues in the films, and occasionally with a little imagination. The work of the lepidopterist is comparable to that of a collector who freezes film time into still images: The taxidermist first kills a butterfly to study its specifics.
